Edward Snowden : did we fail ?
I’m sitting here in the middle of nowhere. The sea surrounds me. There is this deep blue sky above. I have no Internet connection. No land-line. There is only my mobile phone. No data. This is like the desert. Except it’s an island. With lots of water all around it. And suddenly, I realize how much we failed. I can avoid privacy intrusions here. I can try. They can see where I am as I use my mobile. They are still partially blind while I’m not using the data.

They can see where I am as I use my mobile. They are still partially blind while I’m not using the data. But the mechanics of the dragnet, the surveillance system is still out there. Nothing has really changed. What did we achieve? Tons of papers about the Snowden files later, so many newspapers involved, so many horrible things revealed. Brought to the public knowledge. Things that are so bluntly privacy violations, attacks against what democracy should be… And still… Nothing happened. Where the fuck did we fail?
But did we fail? Journalists and newspapers reported about the dragnet. Edward Snowden stood against what he felt was an abomination. His life was destroyed as many others’ were before. Old uncle Sam doesn’t like people publicly stating what he does.
Don’t say the CIA is working with narcos. Don’t say the CIA is arming some mujahideens in Afghanistan who will eventually turn against America. Don’t tell anyone America legalized torture. Don’t tell the public that the USA has always been supporting ultra-rightists in South America. Don’t say that the USA has been spying on everybody for years,...
