Telecomix released more than 330 videos footages - worth almost 4GB - recorded by Syrian inhabitants, and several documentaries made by journalists who investigated the Syrian case and the violences happening in the country.
The Syrians record a large number of short videos every day and publish them mainly (but not only) on YouTube. Telecomix has been collecting these videos, linking them from our IRC channel into a simple, publicly available, text file. Basic metadata is appended to each video entry: date, geolocation and a small description.
Downloading from YouTube and gathering these videos was mainly motivated by the will to protect them from a potential deletion on YouTube, which can be done through the "report as abuse" tool or by deleting a user's account after stealing his password. The repository also eases the possibility of replicating the videos. Grouping the videos with metadata was also thought as a way to ease access to a video archive of the Syrian revolution for journalists interested in investigating its history.
Videos mainly show raw scenes of what is happening on the ground in many cities of the country. The covered period runs from April until now, but the coverage is - for now - much denser starting from November.
