Edward Snowden : did we fail ?
I’m sitting here in the middle of nowhere. The sea surrounds me. There is this deep blue sky above. I have no Internet connection. No land-line. There is only my mobile phone. No data. This is like the desert. Except it’s an island. With lots of water all around it. And suddenly, I realize how much we failed. I can avoid privacy intrusions here. I can try. They can see where I am as I use my mobile. They are still partially blind while I’m not using the data.
But did we fail? Journalists and newspapers reported about the dragnet. Edward Snowden stood against what he felt was an abomination. His life was destroyed as many others’ were before. Old uncle Sam doesn’t like people publicly stating what he does.
Don’t say the CIA is working with narcos. Don’t say the CIA is arming some mujahideens in Afghanistan who will eventually turn against America. Don’t tell anyone America legalized torture. Don’t tell the public that the USA has always been supporting ultra-rightists in South America. Don’t say that the USA has been spying on everybody for years, getting in your computer, stealing your nude selfies.
Or else…
So what did go wrong?
Maybe we only need look into a mirror if we are looking for the culprits.
We the people did nothing. Any massive protest around the globe?
Did anyone wonder why nothing changes when the president and the Administration changes? Why we had torture, deportations, illegal imprisonments, with George Bush and why we still have a huge worldwide intrusive and disruptive dragnet in place, working around the clock with Barack Obama? Did anyone ask for a real change?
Did anyone destroy his Facebook, or Gmail account? Shred it’s Instagram, account?
Was any politician held accountable? Any trial against the Bush Administration? Even coming from an international organization? Didn’t Richard Nixon resign after the Watergate? What did Barack Obama do after we learned what Edward Snowden told us? Nothing...
We fucking need a massive bowel disruptor before it’s too late…
